Glencoe Real EstateGlencoe, founded in 1835, is located approximately 17 miles north of downtown Chicago and measures 3.8 square miles in area. Glencoe has a population of 8,762. Glencoe is the northernmost of the New Trier "feeder suburbs" along the North Shore. Glencoe has one train station at Park and Green Bay Road. The average commuting time is 38-47 minutes.
Glencoe has beautiful ravines along the lake that create choice housing sites. Glencoe, like Wilmette, has an "older", east portion of town with a "newer", post-war building boom further west near the expressway and Skokie Lagoons. As such, it has great diversity in housing style from magnificent Tudors and Colonials that speak of a bygone era to 1950's contemporaries to very striking modern houses. There are also many new construction houses with many amenities desired by today's families, such as large finished basements, kitchen-great rooms, media rooms, marble baths, and more. |

Schools
Glencoe School (District 35) is organized slightly differently than Wilmette and Winnetka's neighborhood school format. All students in Glencoe attend South School for grades K-2, West School for grades 3-4, and Central School for grades 5-8. Following that, all District 35 students are able to attend New Trier High School (District 203).
|
New Trier High School (District 203) is divided into two campuses. The West Campus, located in Northfield, is home to all freshman students. This is a wonderful arrangement, as it is the first time students from all six junior high schools come together. The freshman campus provides a great opportunity for a large class of 1000 students to get to know each other without the influence of the older grades. The East Campus is the original campus established in 1901. The East Campus, located in Winnetka, accommodates sophomores, juniors, and seniors. New Trier High School (District 203) is known for its academic excellence in addition to its award winning fine arts program and excellent athletic programs. |
Parks and Recreation
Glencoe's Park District includes lakefront parks, beaches, tennis courts, and two outdoor ice rinks. There are 71.75 acres of parkland comprised of 25 parks. Glencoe's Community Center is housed in the former North School and is used for children's and adult programs.
There are many programs for preschool and kindergarten age children and for older children as well. Those programs include things such as Mad Science, Jazz and Ballet, Amazing Minds, Karate, and more. Adult programs include classes such as Star Gazers, Yoga, and softball for men and women.
Village Life
Glencoe's quaint downtown offers many shopping conveniences from the obvious grocery store and pharmacy to the specialty boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants.
The Glencoe Library, Glencoe Village Hall, and the Police and Fire Safety Building are all located in the heart of Glencoe between Hazel and Park Avenue, just west of Green Bay Road.
For questions about village policies or zoning visit the Glencoe Village Hall located at 677 Village Court. For more information on the history of Glencoe, visit the Glencoe Historical Society.
